Accreditation — What It Means and Why It Matters
This is the most important question you should ask any school or consultant. Accreditation determines whether your degree will be accepted for ECFMG certification, whether you can sit for the USMLE, and ultimately whether you can practice medicine in the U.S. or Canada.

Since 2024, ECFMG requires all international graduates to come from a school accredited by a WFME-recognized body. Wow Study only partners with schools that meet this standard.
Body / StandardWhat It Means for You
WFME Recognition Global gold standard. Since 2024, ECFMG requires graduates to come from schools accredited by a WFME-recognized body. Non-negotiable for U.S. residency.
ECFMG / Intealth The gateway to U.S. residency for international graduates. Your school must have an ECFMG Sponsor Note in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
CAAM-HP Primary Caribbean regional accreditor. Carries full WFME Recognition Status. Required for ECFMG certification and U.S. residency eligibility.
ACCM Accredits AUC (St. Maarten). Holds WFME Recognition Status through 2026. Satisfies the 2024 ECFMG requirement.
NCFMEA U.S. Dept. of Education recognition. Means students may qualify for U.S. federal financial aid (Title IV / FAFSA).
NVAO European accreditor for the Netherlands — covers Saba (Dutch Caribbean). The only Caribbean school with European-standard accreditation. Also WFME and NCFMEA recognized.
EU Accreditation European schools accredited under ESG standards. Degrees recognized across all EU member states and ECFMG-eligible for U.S./Canadian licensing.
Calif. Medical Board Charles University (2nd & 3rd Faculties) are specifically recognized, facilitating licensure in the U.S.'s most populous state.
Licensing: Your Path Back to the U.S. or Canada
USMLE Pathway
All Wow Study partner schools prepare students for the United States Medical Licensing Examination — Step 1 (basic sciences), Step 2 CK (clinical knowledge), and Step 3 (during residency).
MCCQE (Canada) Pathway
Canadian students returning home must pass the MCCQE Part 1. There is approximately 60–70% content overlap with USMLE, making USMLE preparation highly useful. However, MCCQE is a separate required exam — USMLE scores are not a substitute for CaRMS licensing.

U.S. Clinical Rotations — Why They Matter for Residency
U.S. clinical experience (USCE) is one of the most important factors in residency selection for international graduates. The best Caribbean schools place students at ACGME-approved U.S. teaching hospitals during Years 3 and 4.
Hands-On Experience
Gain real clinical exposure in U.S. hospitals, working directly with patients and medical teams.
Build Connections
Develop relationships with physicians and hospitals where you may later apply for residency.
Stronger Residency Profile
Earn evaluations and letters of recommendation from U.S. doctors — a key advantage in matching.
This is the advantage that separates the right Caribbean school from the wrong one. Wow Study partners only with programs that deliver genuine U.S. clinical placement.

After not getting into Canadian medical schools, I was devastated. Wow Study showed me the Caribbean MD pathway — schools recognized for USMLE with clinical rotations in the U.S. I'm now in my 1st year at a medical school in Grenada. The quality of education is excellent, and I'm confident I'm on the right path to matching into a U.S. or Canadian residency program.
— Jessica T., Toronto, Canada
